For the past three years from 2021 to 2024, ARGM, or New Mayapur, has been participating in the Erasmus project "Rural Entrepreneurship for You(th)." As the title suggests, this Erasmus-funded initiative aimed to inspire young people to explore and develop business opportunities in rural areas.
In today’s increasingly urbanized world, we see a significant migration to cities. Many young people face challenges finding employment in rural communities and often perceive a lack of financial stability in staying there. The goal of this project was to demonstrate that rural entrepreneurship offers diverse opportunities for success and growth. New Mayapur being in a rural area, we knew it would definitely be interesting even for our local youths.
So, how did we achieve this? This was a collaborative effort involving eight associations from eight countries: Hungary (Krishna Valley), Spain (Nandagram), Italy (Goloka Ecofarm), Ukraine (New Mayapur), Slovenia (Duhovno), Germany (Goloka Dhama), Sweden (Iskcon Almvik), and France. Over the past three years, two young participants between the ages of 18 to 30 from each country gathered annually for week-long trainings in Hungary, Sweden, and Italy. These sessions featured hands-on workshops, where participants learned practical skills such as caring for cows and bulls, fine woodwork, making homemade cheeses, pottery, bee keeping, art therapy, restauration, and much much more.
In parallel, the project managers and representatives from each association met annually in Germany, France, and Spain to brainstorm and explore further ideas related to rural entrepreneurship, they themselves met up and learned from local entrepreneurs, including few entrepreneurs around New Mayapur or in our community itself -information about these meet ups has been shared online on our various social platforms mentioned below-.
Together, we’ve developed an online educational platform aimed primarily at young people, although it is open to all. The platform offers blogs, articles, quizzes, and a group where one can become a member and discuss more easily with like-minded people. The content created during the youth training has also been shared on our social media pages for the past 3 years:
